School districts across the state come to grips with Gov. Phil Murphy’s revised plans for reopening in the fall. The list of schools choosing to postpone in-person learning is growing. For those districts opting to bring students back to class, the Department of Health will use a color-coded, six-region system to track coronavirus outbreaks within school districts. The system is similar to something already being used by the department to trace cases of the flu and indicate risk of transmission.

In a startling reminder that this virus is not over, health officials Thursday reported 699 new positive tests. It’s the highest one day total this month. Cumulatively the state has 186,594 cases with eight new fatalities. There are 15,907 confirmed and probable deaths.
