Nearly 2 million tulips on display at Jersey farm

There are about 2 million tulips — comprising more than 200 varieties on 150 acres — at Holland Ridge Farms in Cream Ridge. This year marks the farm’s second annual Tulip Festival.

The season typically lasts three to four weeks, though that all depends on Mother Nature. Last year about 20,000 people visited in just one weekend.

The farm imports the bulbs from Holland. After the tulip has reached its peak blooming stage and the petals have fallen, the farming staff comes through with large machinery and they pull the stem and bulb out of the ground. Eventually, they plant the new imported tulips in October.

There are three different types of tulip bulbs on the farm: early, mid and late bloomers.
