Health experts said the numbers would get worse before they got better and they are. The number of positive COVID-19 cases shot up again overnight to 3,675, including 44 total deaths. That makes Tuesday the largest single day report of new fatalities in the state since the start of the outbreak. New Jersey is now the second leading state in the nation for the number of positive cases.
With school suspended indefinitely, the state Department of Education on Tuesday applied for a federal waiver to cancel all student standardized testing scheduled this spring. Gov. Phil Murphy also announced successful talks with the White House — securing a commitment to have FEMA operate four pop-up field hospitals across the state.
