Changes Coming with Meadowlands Racing and Entertainment Grand Opening

Gural said the grand opening of the Meadowlands will offer a completely different look for patrons.

With the grand opening of the new Meadowlands Racing and Entertainment tomorrow, Meadowlands Racetrack Chairman Jeff Gural told NJTV News Managing Editor Mike Schneider that the new facility is completely different and people will be shocked when they walk in the door.

Gural said that he is not worried about the grand opening tomorrow.

The new facility is only a third of the size of the old one because internet wagering will be allowed and 90 percent of the people betting will not be in the Meadowlands, Gural said.

One of the food and beverage vendors sent out a designer and when she asked Gural what he wanted the facility to look like, he said that he wanted it to be a cool place where young people would go to hang out. She told him that he needed to change everything that he was doing up until that point, so he did.

As far as some of the changes, Gural said, “The carpet is gorgeous, instead of plain beige carpet. Now we have purple walls. The dining room is called Pink, so everything is pink.”

Gural said that they have a great product now so they key is to get people in the door to see it. A new plan at the racetrack is to teach people how to bet by adding beginner’s windows so newcomers will not feel intimidated or rushed to bet, he said. Gural said this is especially useful for the younger generations that do not know how to bet like their grandfathers did, so now they will be able to learn.

When it comes to placing bets, Gural said, “When you win, it’s great and when you don’t, you say, ‘I’ll get ’em next time.'”
