Assemblyman Vincent Prieto has been appointed president and CEO of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA). He will resign his seat in the General Assembly and his position as a construction code official for the city of Secaucus.
NJSEA Board Chairman Mike Ferguson said Thursday the appointment represents forward momentum for the agency since merging with the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission in 2015. In a statement, he commented it is “especially appropriate as Assemblyman Prieto crafted the legislation that successfully combined the two agencies, in keeping with his commitment to streamlined and efficient government.”
Prieto, a Democrat and Meadowlands resident for 30 years, accepted the appointment, noting he is “intimately familiar with and passionate about the vital importance of the region as both an economic engine and environmental jewel.”
Prieto has served as Assemblyman for the past 14 years. During his tenure, he served as Deputy Majority Whip from 2006-2011; Budget Chair from 2012-2013; and Assembly Speaker from 2014-2017.
Prieto will assume his new role on Feb. 26.
