Malinowski announces support of Pelosi for House speaker

NJTV News Staff | November 23, 2018 | Politics

Newly-elected representative Tom Malinowski has announced he’ll back Nancy Pelosi for speaker of the House. He says he received a promise from Pelosi that she’d address the SALT deduction cap and help secure federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel project.

“A long, bitter and divisive leadership fight is the last thing we need at this moment of national crisis,” Malinowski said in a statement. “Nancy Pelosi has demonstrated time and again that she can unify our diverse Democratic caucus and negotiate with the other side to get results.”

Malinowski is the first of the four New Jersey freshmen to endorse Pelosi. Two others, Jeff Van Drew and Mikie Sherrill, have said they would oppose her. Andy Kim has yet to announce his position.
