Hello, my name is Nicholas Chiaravalloti and it is my honor to represent Bayonne and Jersey City in the New Jersey State Assembly. As a life-long resident of the 31st Legislative District, I have tried to focus on the issues that most impact our daily lives – those issues that will make New Jersey fairer and stronger for all of us.
My top priority when I was first elected in 2015 was to assure that Bayonne – which was one of the most underfunded school districts in New Jersey - received its fair share.
As Assemblyman, I fought for Bayonne and since 2016, Bayonne has seen a 78% increase in state aid. These dollars allow the Board of Education with the resources to provide our children the highest quality education.
Additionally, this year Bayonne will finally be able to offer Pre-K for all. Data shows that pre-K can improve the odds of a students future success. It is important to give our students the fundamentals to become avid learners and providing working families the financial relief that they need. For our communities to succeed we must invest in our children’s education and support hard-working families.
Public safety and gun violence continues to be a major concern. Working with my colleagues, I have attempted to develop pragmatic criminal justice reforms. These reforms assure that individuals are not kept in prison for petty crimes simply because they cannot afford bail. However, that is balanced with strong gun laws that target gang-related violence.
Another priority and passion of mine is improving our transportation infrastructure. It is clear that we need affordable, reliable, and accessible transportation systems. I have worked with our local and state officials to improve the Route 440 corridor to make sure it is safe for pedestrians while developing plans to relieve congestion. Like many of you, I am frustrated with the traffic getting in and out of Hudson County – this will continue to be a priority for me in the upcoming years.
Public transportation is also important for our county to continue to grow. That is why I have worked with NJ Transit to preserve bus lines and expand Lite Rail Service to our community.
We also have an obligation to protect the well-being of seniors and our veterans. I will continue to fight to make sure they have access to the benefits they deserve and have earned – especially affordable high-quality healthcare.
Finally, I believe one of the most significant issues impacting New Jersey is affordability. We need to continue to work on making sure that New Jersey is a first choice location for the next generation while keeping is affordable for our older generations.
I hope to have the opportunity to continue working on these and many issues. On Tuesday, November 5th, please vote for me, Nicholas Chiaravalloti, Democrat for Assembly.
