Hi, my name is Craig Coughlin, Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly and Assemblyman from the 19th Legislative District.
I am running for re-election to continue representing the towns of Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy and Woodbridge.
A proud Democrat, I have had the privilege of leading the General Assembly these past two years and tackling some of New Jersey's most notable challenges, including property taxes, school funding and improving our state's economy and job market.
I was the prime sponsor of legislation phasing in a $15 minimum wage. I partnered with my colleagues to rebalance the school funding formula in order to bring more money back for our local public schools. I have restored full funding for property tax relief programs in the state budget that help our most vulnerable communities.
During my tenure as speaker, we have passed worker protections such as equal pay for women and earned sick leave for all workers.
We enacted legislation to address infant mortality and maternal health and have tackled foreclosures and victim's rights.
Near and dear to my heart, I have championed the issue of fighting hunger and food insecurity through legislation, increased budget funding and supporting local food banks through my Bowl for Hunger.
But though we have accomplished a great deal, much more needs to be done. That's why I am asking the voters of the 19th District to send me back to Trenton, along with my running mate, Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez, to continue our work in addressing the issues important to you.
