The 8th District encompasses 20 communities in Atlantic, Burlington and Camden counties: Berlin Borough, Eastampton, Evesham, Hainesport, Hammonton, Lumberton, Mansfield, Medford, Medford Lakes, Mount Holly, Pemberton Borough, Pemberton Township, Pine Hill, Pine Valley, Shamong, Southampton, Springfield, Waterford, Westampton and Woodland.
A plurality of those registered are not affiliated with a party. Those who have chosen a party skew the district slightly Democratic — 34%, versus 29% Republican. This was a red district until 2019, when Sen. Dawn Marie Addiego switched parties and became a Democrat. Now, it has split representation.
Addiego, an Evesham attorney, is seeking re-election to the Senate for the first time as a Democrat. Challenging her is Republican Assemblywoman Jean Stanfield, a retired Burlington County sheriff who won her seat two years ago,
With Stanfield running for the Senate and Assemblyman Ryan Peters retiring there are no incumbents seeking re-election to the Assembly. The Republican candidates are Hammonton Councilman Michael Torrissi Jr. and Lumberton Township Administrator Brandon Umba, who lives in Medford. The Democrats running are Mark Natale, an attorney from Marlton who was unsuccessful in an Assembly bid in 2019, and Allison Eckel, a marketing specialist from Medford.
