The 21st District encompasses 16 communities in Morris, Somerset and Union counties: Berkeley Heights, Bernards, Chatham Borough, Cranford, Far Hills, Garwood, Kenilworth, Long Hill, Mountainside, New Providence, Roselle Park, Springfield, Summit, Warren, Watchung and Westfield.
The district is represented by Republicans, but voter registration leans slightly Democratic: 34% to 28%. Unaffiliated voters traditionally swing the results to the red side of the ballot.
Sen. Thomas Kean Jr. is not seeking reelection. Assembly Republican leader Jon Bramnick of Westfield is looking to move into that seat. So is Roselle Park Mayor Joseph Signorello III, the Democratic nominee.
Both major parties fielded full slates for the two Assembly seats. The Republicans are incumbent Nancy Munoz of Summit, who is running with Michele Matsikoudis, a New Providence councilwoman. The Democrats are Elizabeth Graner, a teacher from Basking Ridge, and Mountainside resident Anjali Mehrotra, who is the current president of the National Organization for Women of New Jersey.
