With Delran’s Carli Lloyd having announced her imminent retirement from professional soccer, a sport on which she’s made an immense mark, the experts — and fans — are beginning to take stock of just how much she has accomplished. That list would include two-time World Cup Champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and two-time FIFA Player of the Year. Plus, second in appearances with the United States national squad and tied for fifth in international goals with 128.
Lloyd will play her final four matches with the U.S. national squad in September and October. One of her final club matches with NJ/NY Gotham FC will be a stone’s throw from Lloyd’s hometown. NJ/NY Gotham FC has announced that, in celebration of Lloyd’s legendary career, its Oct. 6 match against the Washington Spirit will be played at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. It will be one of the last local chances for hometown fans to watch Lloyd play before she retires.
“I have played many games at Subaru Park with the national team and to have the opportunity to play in front of my home crowd on the club level will be an amazing memory,” Lloyd said. “Let’s be loud and fill the stadium!”
