Children in NJ receiving expanded food-assistance benefits for the summer months because of the pandemic

The state Department of Human Services has started delivering food-assistance benefits for the summer months to 375,000 children — an expansion of the department’s existing program offering nutrition support during the school year for eligible families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and its toll on the state economy.

A total of $140 million is being distributed, at a rate of $375 per child, in the form of electronic transfers to payment cards issued under the state’s Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer program.
