The 26th District includes 13 communities in Essex, Morris and Passaic counties: Butler, Fairfield, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Montville, Morris Plains, North Caldwell, Parsippany, Rockaway Township, Verona, West Caldwell and West Milford.
It is a solidly red district, represented for decades by GOP legislators. Republicans account for 34% of registered voters; 28% are Democrats and most of the rest are unaffiliated.
Sen. Joseph Pennacchio, a Montville dentist, is seeking reelection. There is a contested race for the two Assembly seats. Both Assembly members are seeking reelection: Jay Webber, a lawyer from Morris Plains, and Betty Lou DeCroce, a Parsippany business executive. Christian Barranco, a former Pompton Lakes council member who is backed by the Morris and Passaic GOP committees, is also running as a Republican, as is Thomas Mastrangelo of Montville.
On the Democratic ballot, Christine Clarke, an environmental activist, is running for the Senate. Melissa Brown Blaeuer, a creative and technology strategy consultant, and Pamela Fadden, an educator, are running for Assembly. Both listed an Oak Ridge post office box as an address.
