State grants to finance lead-safe repairs on older housing

The Department of Community Affairs will award more than $6.8 million in grants to nonprofit groups across the state to assist residents of older homes in making lead-safe repairs to their properties.

First priority will go to households with children younger than 6 and/or pregnant women in eligible housing built prior to 1978 with a lead-based paint hazard. Second priority may be given to households deferred from DCA’s Weatherization Assistance Program due to having lead-based paint hazards.

The target area for the lead-safe program is statewide, with the exception of Camden, Newark, Passaic, Paterson and Trenton, which fall under DCA’s Single-Family Program.
