Incoming president offers message of hope and an assessment of how Rutgers — and the world — have changed in just the past few months

Expressing only one regret, that he couldn’t speak directly to the Rutgers University community, new President John Holloway said he would focus much of his initial energy on “repair and rebuilding” damage inflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are also living in a moment of global racial reckoning,” Holloway continued, one that offers the country an opportunity “to live up to the aspirations of its founding documents.”

For Holloway, “The good news is that Rutgers has the ingredients to succeed in the face of these challenges,” meaning both the pandemic and the struggle for social justice.
