CARES Act Funds for NJ Transit to serve rural communities

The Federal Transit Administration announced Wednesday that New Jersey Transit will receive $13.3 million to bolster operations in rural communities. This funding is part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the $2 trillion emergency stimulus package Congress passed in March.

New Jersey Transit was hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and saw a steep decline in passenger numbers during the height of the crisis. According to the agency, the funding will be used for transportation services, equipment purchases and project administration in rural areas, including Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, and Warren counties.
