Multiple by which NJ incumbents outraised challengers in this year’s elections

If you ever doubted the advantage of incumbency in politics, look no further than the breakdown of spending by incumbents and challengers in this year’s elections as recorded by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. The incumbents raised almost four times as much cash as the challengers. Through Oct. 22, incumbents had raised $15, 659,237 and spent $9,511,870, leaving them with $6,147,366 cash in hand. The challengers didn’t come anywhere near matching those figures, raising $4,151,282 and spending $3,519,369; that left them with $631,912.
