Legislative District 5

NJ Spotlight | October 8, 2019 | Elections 2019

NJ Spotlight is sharing election coverage with NJTV News, our sister organization, which invited all candidates to complete a brief survey and record a video message; we have included those for all the candidates who responded.

The 5th District encompasses 19 communities in Gloucester and Camden counties: Audubon, Audubon Park, Barington, Bellmawr, Brooklawn, Camden, Deptford, Gloucester City, Haddon Heights, Harrison, Lawnside, Magnolia, Mantua, Mount Ephraim, Runnemede, Wenonah, Westville, Woodbury and Woodlynne.

This is a safe Democratic district, with about 46% of registered voters identifying with the blue party, 15% Republican, and most of the rest unaffiliated.

The retirement of Democratic Assemblywoman Patricia Egan Jones has opened up a seat in the lower house. William Moen Jr. of Camden has filed for her seat and is running with the district’s other assemblyman, William Spearman, also of Camden.

The Republican ticket comprises Nicholas Kush of Runnemede and, running in his second primary in a row, Kevin Ehret of Haddon Heights.
