Legislative District 37

NJ Spotlight | October 8, 2019 | Elections 2019

NJ Spotlight is sharing election coverage with NJTV News, our sister organization, which invited all candidates to complete a brief survey and record a video message; we have included those for all the candidates who responded.

The 37th District includes 13 communities in Bergen County: Alpine, Bogota, Cresskill, Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee, Hackensack, Leonia, Northvale, Palisades Park, Rockleigh, Teaneck, and Tenafly.

Voter registration is 49% Democratic and 14% Republican, with most other district voters unaffiliated.

Both Democratic incumbents are seeking re-election: Assembly members Valerie Vainieri Huttle and Gordon Johnson, both of Englewood.

The Republican candidates both ran unsuccessfully in 2017. They are Gino P. Tessaro and Angela Hendricks, both of Hackensack.

Another prior candidate, Claudio Belusic of Palisades Park, is running as a Libertarian.
