Legislative District 35

NJ Spotlight is sharing election coverage with NJTV News, our sister organization, which invited all candidates to complete a brief survey and record a video message; we have included those for all the candidates who responded.

The 35th District encompasses six communities in Bergen and Passaic counties: Elmwood Park, Garfield, Haledon, North Haledon, Paterson, and Prospect Park.

Voter registration is 47% Democratic and 10%Republican, with most of the rest of voters unaffiliated.

The district is represented by Democrats. Both Assembly members are on the ballot. They are Shavonda Sumter of Paterson and Benjie Wimberly, both of Paterson.

Only one Republican is on the ballot, Tamer Mamkej of Haledon.
