Legislative District 34

NJ Spotlight | October 8, 2019 | Elections 2019

NJ Spotlight is sharing election coverage with NJTV News, our sister organization, which invited all candidates to complete a brief survey and record a video message; we have included those for all the candidates who responded.

The 34th District includes four communities in Essex and Passaic counties: Clifton, East Orange, Montclair, and Orange.

Democrats account for more than half of all registered voters. About 9% are Republican; most of the rest have no party affiliation.

Both Democratic Assembly members — Britnee Timberlake of East Orange and Thomas Giblin, a labor union officer who lives in Montclair — are seeking re-election.

For the Republicans, the candidates are Bharat T. Rana and Irene Devita, both Clifton residents.

One independent candidate is also running. He is Clenard Howard Childress Jr., of East Orange, running under the banner Stop the Insanity!
