Legislative District 23

NJ Spotlight is sharing election coverage with NJTV News, our sister organization, which invited all candidates to complete a brief survey and record a video message; we have included those for all the candidates who responded.

The sprawling 23rd District includes 34 communities in Hunterdon, Somerset, and Warren counties: Alexandria, Alpha, Bedminster, Bethlehem, Bloomsbury, Bound Brook, Bridgewater, Califon, Clinton, Clinton Township, Franklin (Hunterdon), Frenchtown, Glen Gardner, Greenwich, Hackettstown, Hampton, Harmony, High Bridge, Holland, Kingwood, Lebanon Borough and Lebanon Township, Lopatcong, Mansfield, Milford, Peapack-Gladstone, Phillipsburg, Pohatcong, Raritan Borough, South Bound Brook, Tewksbury, Union, Washington Borough, and Washington Township.

Voter registration skews Republican, with 35% of registered voters identifying with the GOP. Democrats comprise 26% of those registered, and most of the rest are unaffiliated.

The district is represented by Republicans, both of whom are seeking re-election: Assemblyman Erik Peterson of Annandale and Assemblyman John DiMaio of Hackettstown.

The Democratic ticket features Marisa Trofimov of Hampton and Denise T. King of Bedminster.

Top three issues: Property taxes; illegal immigration; opioid crisis.

Hometown: Hampton, NJ

Occupation: Lawyer

Top three issues: Get state reinvestment in District 23; expansion of transportation in District 23 (and repair of existing stations, a one-seat ride to NYC at existing stations); reducing healthcare costs.
