After reviewing accusation, Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office declines to proceed

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office has declined to bring charges against Al Alvarez, a former official in the administration of Gov. Phil Murphy, after reviewing an accusation made by Katie Brennan, another Murphy administration staffer, that Alvarez had raped her. Alvarez had denied the allegation.

The case led to a special legislative inquiry regarding the Murphy administration’s handling of the matter and its hiring practices.
