Guadagno Talks Taxes, Taxes, Taxes on WNYC’s Brian Lehrer Show

Host rattles Republican candidate when he questions if she favors abortion but not for poor women

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno spent time with WNYC’s Brian Lehrer yesterday, who was quick to move the discussion to her favorite topic — New Jersey’s taxes, arguing that in the Garden State, “people vote their pocketbooks.” The Republican candidate for governor argued that the debate in New Jersey does not reflect the toxic politics of Washington, D.C., saying that there isn’t any racism or bigotry in her home state. But it was pretty much as expected, with Guadagno reiterating her stand on taxes and running down Phil Murphy, the Democratic candidate, for his fiscal largesse. Lehrer rattled Guadagno late in the show, when he tried to pin her down on her position on abortion, asking “Does your position mean you’re pro-choice, except for poor women?”
