Legislative District 39

NJ Spotlight | October 9, 2017 | Elections 2017

The 39th District encompasses 23 communities in Bergen and Passaic counties: Bloomingdale, Closter, Demarest, Dumont, Emerson, Harrington Park, Haworth, Hillsdale, Mahwah, Montvale, Norwood, Oakland, Old Tappan, Park Ridge, Ramsey, Ringwood, River Vale, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River, Wanaque, Washington, Westwood, and Woodcliff Lake.

Voter registration is relatively close — 29 percent Republican and 27 percent Democrat. But while most other voters have no declared party affiliation, they tend to vote “red.”

In this GOP district, all Republican incumbents are running again. Sen. Gerald Cardinale of Demarest is on the ballot with Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi, an attorney from River Vale, and Assemblyman Robert Auth, a business owner from Old Tappan.

The Democrats on the ballot are Linda H. Schwager of Oakland for Senate, and Janine Chung of Closter and Annie Hausman of Norwood for Assembly.

Libertarian James Tosone of Washington Township is also challenging for the Senate.
