Half the participants in recent poll think New Jersey senator does not deserve a second term

Even if he beats the bribery charge he’s now fighting in federal court, Sen. Bob Menendez may not be home free. According to a recent Quinnipiac University poll, 50 percent of those surveyed do not feel the New Jersey Democratic representative deserves to be re-elected, compared with 20 percent who think he should get another shot. That’s significant slippage since June, when an earlier Quinnipiac University found that 31 percent thought he should get another term.

Last week’s poll also indicated that Menendez’s approval rating had slipped into negative territory, 31 percent to 49 percent.
