Legislative District 35

The 35th District encompasses six communities in Bergen and Passaic counties: Elmwood Park, Garfield, Haledon, North Haledon, Paterson, and Prospect Park.

Voter registration is 46 percent Democrat and 9 percent Republican, with half of voters unaffiliated.

All Democratic incumbents are on the ballot. Assembly members Shavonda Sumter, a healthcare administrator from Paterson, and Benjie Wimberly, recreation director for the City of Paterson and the Paterson School District, are unopposed. Sen. Nellie Pou of North Haledon faces a challenge from Haytham Younes of Paterson.

The Republican team features Marwan Sholakh of North Haledon for Senate and Ibrahim Mahmoud of Paterson and Nihad Younes of Haledon for Assembly.
