Legislative District 34

The 34th District includes four communities in Essex and Passaic counties: Clifton, East Orange, Montclair, and Orange.

Democrats account for more than half of all registered voters. About 9 percent are Republican; most of the rest have no party affiliation.

There are no primary challenges for either party.

The Democratic incumbents are Sen. Nia H. Gill of Montclair and Assembly members Sheila Oliver, the former Assembly speaker from East Orange, and Thomas Giblin, a labor union officer who lives in Montclair.

For the Republicans, Mahir Saleh of Clifton is running for Senate and Ghalib Mahmoud of Clifton and Nicholas G. Surgent of Clifton are running for the Assembly.
