NJ Spotlight | May 7, 2017 | Elections 2017

The 26th District includes 13 communities in Essex, Morris, and Passaic counties: Butler, Fairfield, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Montville, Morris Plains, North Caldwell, Parsippany, Rockaway Township, Verona, West Caldwell, and West Milford.

It is a solidly “red” district, represented for decades by GOP legislators. Republicans account for 34 percent of registered voters; 24 percent are Democrats, and most of the rest are unaffiliated.

Sen. Joe Pennacchio of Montville, is running unopposed in the Republican primary, as is Elliot Isibor, a previously unsuccessful candidate from Rockaway, in the Democratic primary.

Both Assembly members are from Parsippany and both are seeking re-election: Jay Webber, a lawyer, and Betty Lou DeCroce, a realtor. Challenging them are Morris County Freeholder William “Hank” Lyon of Towaco and John Cesaro of Parsippany.

The Democrats also have a contested primary, featuring Joseph R. Raich of Rockaway running with E. William Edge of West Orange and Laura Fortgang of Verona.
