New York Governor Announces Plan to Offload Penn Station

City says it will build train hall in General Post Office while renovating platforms at Penn

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday a streamlined scheme to create a train hall in the General Post Office on 8th Ave. between 32nd and 33rd streets. At the same time, the city would move ahead with its plans to renovate the platforms and passageways across the avenue at Penn Station. The plan would help relieve congestion at the overcrowded station, which is home to Amtrak, LIRR, New Jersey Transit, and two subway lines.
