NJ Spotlight on Cities: ‘Reimagining’ Our Urban Centers

One of the country’s foremost thinkers on urban renewal will take part in conference geared to creating an urban agenda for the Garden State

Carol Coletta of the Kresge Foundation will participate in NJ Spotlight on Cities.
Carol Coletta, a nationally renowned expert on urban affairs, will speak to the future of New Jersey’s — and America’s — cities at the NJ Spotlight on Cities conference next week in Newark.

With a long record of advocacy, Coletta now leads a $40 million collaboration of public and non-profit organizations to “Reimagine the Civic Commons” in five cities, including Philadelphia, Detroit, and Chicago.

Coletta, a senior fellow at the Kresge Foundation in Michigan, will bring that expertise to the NJ Spotlight on Cities on October 14, where the discussion of an urban agenda for New Jersey will be a primary theme.

The conference, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, will start with a conversation between Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and former Gov. Thomas Kean, and end with a panel discussion among some of those seeking to be governor in 2017.

In between will be panels and talks on topics as wide-ranging as the opioid crisis, community schools, and the impact of new immigrants on our cities.
