Rack up another 21 firings at Essex County College — vice presidents, administrators, faculty members, and others whose contracts are not being renewed. The latest layoffs come a week after President Gale Gibson and the school’s general counsel Vice President Rashidah Hasan were dumped.
President Emeritus Zachary Yamba, who is running the school, said the moves are about saving money.
Gibson and Hasan had spoken out about financial irregularities and had recommended that another vice president be disciplined.
Understandably, many students are upset about the situation.
“They don’t care about this institution or the students or they would not have done what they did the way they did it … During midterms, finals, right before graduation … They were not thinking about the students and this institution,” said Deborah Salters.
