New Jersey Republicans are planning to vote for Donald Trump in the GOP primary, according to recent poll by Rutgers-Eagleton, with 38 percent saying he was their pick, while former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Gov. Chris Christie (who had already dropped out at the time of the poll February 16) each got 7 percent.
Trump is more popular in the Garden State (31 percent) than Christie (29 percent), Sen. Marco Rubio (27 percent), or Sen. Ted Cruz (20 percent). In fact, Republicans give Trump a 58 percent approval rating.
The Democrats, on the other hand, prefer former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by a fairly large margin — 55 percent over 32 percent for Sen. Bernie Sanders. Support for Sanders has gained and Clinton has slipped a bit since Eagleton’s last poll on the subject in in December, when Clinton had 60 percent and Sanders had 19 percent.
