The heads of PSEG and Panasonic talk about calling Newark their corporate home

While we’re on winter hiatus we’ll be publishing podcasts of some of the most compelling and challenging sessions from our October NJ Spotlight On Cities conference, as well as a podcast diary of a colleague who is struggling with breast cancer.

Proximity to transit? Tax incentives? Labor force? Why do major corporations choose to stay in — or in some cases, move to — cities?

At NJ Spotlight On Cities, we looked at that question through the lens of two CEOs whose corporate headquarters are in Newark: Ralph Izzo, president and CEO of PSEG and Joe Taylor, chairman and CEO of Panasonic North America. While PSEG has long been associated with Newark, Panasonic recently decided to bring its corporate headquarters to town. The two spoke at length with Tom Moran, the editorial page editor and columnist for the Star-Ledger/NJ Advance Media.

What are the big issues facing cities that we should be focusing on? Do you know of an organization that’s doing wonderful things in a New Jersey city? Or an idea that’s taken root in another American city that New Jersey might try? Tell us about it by emailing us at oncities@njspotlight.com.
