New Jersey has 87 farms that produce organic goods. Unlike many other states, those farms that do produce organic products tend to be primarily or 100 percent organic. Many large industrial farms have only a portion of their acreage devoted to organic products or are slowly transitioning products to organic growth. In New Jersey, it seems to be all or nothing: 30 of the 87 farms are at least 75 percent organic and 49 of them are 100 percent.
These farms sell more than 90 percent of their products within a 100-mile radius, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and more than 60 percent of these products are sold directly.
