It’s a unique problem that surfaced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy: How do you make sure buildings retain their historic character after they are retrofitted to comply with new post-Sandy flood regulations?

Thousands of homes and businesses in New Jersey still need to be rebuilt, raised or retrofitted. They range from historic brownstones in Jersey City and Hoboken to Colonial and Victorian homes in Jersey Shore towns.
