One child gets hit by a car every day in New Jersey

On average,
one child
under the age of 15 years is struck by a car every day in the Garden State, according to the state Division of Highway Safety. There were 142 youth fatalities (those under the age of 19) during the 10-year period between 2003 and 2012.

With schools reopening this week and next, the state urges motorists to be aware of school zones, bus stops, and crosswalks. Students also need to be aware of crosswalks, crossing guards, and traffic signals.
