The 4th Congressional District includes portions of Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth, and Ocean counties in New Jersey.
Republican Rep. Chris Smith has represented the district since 1981. Neither he nor Democratic opponent Ruben Scolavino had primary opponents. Scott Neuman is the third candidate on the ballot, representing the Democratic-Republican party.
Smith has more than three decades in Congress and 25.6 percent of voters are registered Republicans, with unaffiliated voters leaning red, so it’s likely the district will stay in GOP hands in November.
