Tons of recyclable material collected in NJ

Maybe recycling efforts in New Jersey are in a state of renewed energy this Earth Day. A leading recycling and recovery company, ReCommunity of Charlotte NC, reports that it processed 220,720 tons of recyclable materials statewide last year.

That amounted to 130 million aluminum cans (enough to build 27 jumbo jets); 668 million plastic bottles (enough to make 133 million t-shirts); 15 billion sheets of paper (the equivalent of 146 million spiral notebooks); 44,365 tons of cardboard (263 million boxes and 754,205 trees); and 244 million glass bottles (the equivalent of saving 269,385 barrels of oil.) Additionally, the company said it created 441 recycling industry jobs.
