Quest for places to live made more difficult by approaching summer tourism season

A growing number of Jersey Shore residents are looking for a place to call home while their storm-damaged houses are being rebuilt or repaired.

Following lengthy grant evaluations and inspections, they’re finally receiving the funding to begin construction.

But they’re unable to live in their homes during the construction — and so they find themselves competing for rental housing as the busy summer tourism season looms.

Reporter Tracey Samuelson of WHYY/NewsWorks, a partner of NJ Spotlight, profiles the Appleby family of Seaside Park, who have lived in five different places in the last year and half.
