New Jersey gets criticized every year by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for what it says is the state’s poor business climate. This year New Jersey turned in its usual cellar-dwelling performance, ranking 49th. But that’s only part of the story, since the same study gives the Garden State an overall raking of 33, buoyed by some of its high ratings in other areas.
New Jersey ranks 12th in terms of talent pipeline, getting high ratings for its level of education attainment and job placement efficiency. The state also ranks 14th for innovation and entrepreneurship, due to its high rate of growth in terms of the self-employed and percentage of high-tech business.
