Number of Port Authority employees making $150,000 or more

With the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey under attack as a political patronage mill, it’s interesting to note that as of September 30, 192 employees of the agency were paid $150,000 or more. Of those, 34 had been hired since 2010, when Gov. Chris Christie took office.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo took office in 2011. By tradition, half of the appointees of the bistate agency are from New York and the other half are from New Jersey.

Indeed, 22 employees of the agency were earning more than $200,000 a year, four of which were relatively recent hires.

The agency has a $3.5 billion operating budget and employs about 7,300 workers. More than 1,200 employees earn more than $100,000, not including overtime.
