NJ Spotlight | October 22, 2013 | Elections 2013
Only two of three GOP incumbents on ballot in sprawling district encompassing 20 towns in three counties

district 8
The 8th District encompasses 20 communities in Atlantic, Burlington, and Camden counties: Berlin Borough, Eastampton, Evesham, Hainesport, Hammonton, Lumberton, Mansfield, Medford, Medford Lakes, Mount Holly, Pemberton Borough, Pemberton Township, Pine Hill, Pine Valley, Shamong, Southampton, Springfield, Waterford, Westampton and Woodland.

A majority of those registered have not affiliated with a party. Those who have chosen a party affiliation skew the district slightly Democratic — 28 percent, versus 26 percent Republican. However, voting patterns are decidedly GOP.

While the district is currently represented by three Republicans, only two are running for re-election, as Assemblyman Scott Rudder chose not to run again. Sen. Dawn Marie Addiego, an attorney from Marlton, joined the Assembly in 2008 and moved up to the Senate two years later. Another Marlton resident, Assemblyman Christopher J. Brown is the chief executive of a realty firm finishing his freshman year in the lower house. Running with the Republicans is Maria Rodriguez-Gregg, a dental hygienist from Marlton.

Democrat Javier Vasquez, a small business owner from Medford, is challenging Addiego for the Senate seat. The Democratic Assembly candidates are Robert McGowan, a retired nursing home administrator and Air Force veteran from Medford Lakes ,and Ava Markey, a college student living in Evesham.
