District 37
District 37 includes 13 communities in Bergen County: Alpine, Bogota, Cresskill, Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee, Hackensack, Leonia, Northvale, Palisades Park, Rockleigh, Teaneck and Tenafly.

Voter registration is 41 percent Democrat and 13 percent Republican; most other district voters are unaffiliated.

Running for re-election are three Democrats. Sen. Loretta Weinberg, who resides in Teaneck, is the Senate Majority Leader, having joined the upper house in 2005 after first being elected to the Assembly in 1992. Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, of Englewood, is a funeral director finishing her fourth term in the Statehouse. Assemblyman Gordon Johnson, of Englewood, is a former Bergen County sheriff, who works as a consultant; he was first elected in 2002.

Opposing Weinberg for the Senate seat is Republican Paul Duggan, of Bogota, an international freight forwarder. The Republican Assembly challengers are Deirdre Paul, of Englewood, and Gino Tessaro, of Hackensack.
