Democrats hold the plurality here, with just shy of half of registered voters identifying themselves as “blue.” About 8 percent are Republicans and most others have no party affiliation.
Running for re-election to the Senate seat is Democrat Brian Stack, the mayor of Union City, who was elected to the state Senate in 2008. Neither incumbent assemblyman is seeking re-election. Running for the Assembly seats are Democrats Raj Mukherji, an attorney and former deputy mayor of Jersey City, and Carmelo Garcia, of Hoboken.
Stack is opposed by Republican James Sanford, a Hoboken committeeman and manager of a credit union. The Republican candidates for the Assembly are Jude Anthony Tiscornia, a Jersey City lawyer, and Armando Hernandez, a lawyer who resides in Union City.
