Democrats have huge edge in district encompassing Bayonne and part of Jersey City

District 31
District 31 covers Bayonne and part of Jersey City.

Voter registration is 48 percent Democrat and 6 percent Republican, with most other voters unaffiliated.

The district is represented by three Democrats, all running for re-election. Sen. Sandra Bolden Cunningham, of Jersey City, is the administrator of the Cunningham Foundation and was first elected in 2007. Charles Mainor of Jersey City, a city police detective, joined the Assembly in 2010. Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell, of Bayonne, is the director of public safety there and also is finishing his second term.

Opposing Bolden Cunningham is Republican Maria Karczewski of Bayonne, an office administrator who also has served on the Bayonne City Council. The Republican Assembly candidates, both of whom live in Jersey CIty, are Gerard Pizzillo, an attorney, and Juanita Lopez.
