GOP stronghold includes 13 municipalities in three northern counties

District 26
District 26 encompasses 13 communities in Essex, Morris and Passaic counties: Butler, Fairfield, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Montville, Morris Plains, North Caldwell, Parsippany, Rockaway Township, Verona, West Caldwell and West Milford.

It is a solidly “red” district, represented for decades by GOP legislators. Republican voters account for 34 percent of those who have registered, while 22 percent are Democrats and most of the rest are unaffiliated.

Topping the ticket is Sen. Joe Pennacchio, a Pine Brook dentist who has served a dozen years in the Legislature, including the last six in the Senate. Both Assembly members seeking re-election are from Parsippany: Jay Webber, a lawyer finishing his third term, and Betty Lou DeCroce, a realtor completing her first term.

The slate of Democrats opposing them includes familiar names, as all have unsuccessfully sought office before. The Senate candidate is Avery Ann Hart for Senate, a clinical psychotherapist and member of the state Board of Nursing from Kinnelon. The Assembly candidates are Elliot Isibor, a teacher and adjunct professor from Rockaway Township, and Joseph Raich, a limousine driver from Parsippany.
