Incumbents seek re-election in Democratic-leaning Middlesex

District 19 includes five communities in Middlesex County: Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy, and Woodbridge.

A blue district, 39 percent of voters are registered Democrats, 10 percent are Republicans and most of the rest are unaffiliated.

Three Democrats, all of whom are on the ballot, represent the district. Sen. Joseph Vitale of Woodbridge, president of a sign business, joined the Senate in 1998. Assemblyman John Wisniewski, a Sayreville attorney, is finishing his ninth term in the lower house. Assemblyman Craig Coughlin, also an attorney and former South Amboy councilman, was elected in 2010.

On the Republican side, Robert Luban, a Woodbridge councilman and AT&T retiree, is running for Senate. Stephanie Ziemba, a registered nurse from South Amboy, and Arif Khan, of Woodbridge are seeking Assembly seats.
