The New Jersey Conservation Fund, together with monies from various partners, including the state Green Acres program, has purchased 94 acres in Delaware Township to provide a final link to a 1,000-acre green belt and trail system surrounding the hamlet of Sergeantsville.

The property, which encompasses woods, hayfields and, a tiny historic cemetery, also provides a habitat for wood turtles, a threatened species.

The purchase brings the preserved watershed lands in the area to 4,000 acres. New Jersey Water Supply Authority, as well as Delaware Township, Hunterdon County, and the 1772 Foundation are partners in the project. The 1772 Foundation was interested in preserving the tiny Pine Hill Cemetery, which has markers dating back as far as the 1700s.
