Implementing Newark’s new teachers contract — particularly its system of performance bonuses — is sure to be one of the big stories of 2013 and beyond.

NJ Spotlight education reporter about the new contract and what it will — and won’t — do for New Jersey’s largest district and Gov. Chris Christie’s plans for improving it.

Topics included one early development in which a vast majority of Newark’s veteran teachers opted out of the performance bonus system, at least for now. That’s only one piece of the contract, which also sets new rules for working in some of the city’s most troubled schools.
